About

I am the daughter of Sharon, the granddaughter of Lorene. And I am the heart behind Valley Girl. I am a Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki II practitioner, a sound healer, a conscious breathwork apprentice, an M.Div. graduate, and a licensed minister in the American Baptist tradition.

My most challenging and rewarding journey has been learning to have compassion for every part of myself, especially the parts I’ve been ashamed of. My greatest teachers were the valleys of life—the barren places where I surrendered my hidden truths, tended to my wounds, and did deep, deep shadow work. The darkest nights of my soul became vibrant opportunities for reconciliation, reconstruction, and reimagination of my life.

The valleys led me on a journey of remembrance of my matrilineal roots. I am called to do my part in this age of healing by integrating the gifts I’ve inherited from my ancestors and offering them to others.

I offer these gifts in my practices with you. I invite you to dive into the valleys of your life and discover the light in your darkness. There is the sweet promise of beauty and discovery of what it means to be fully alive in your body.

We are being called to this promise and we deserve it.

Valley Girl was a vision planted in my heart back in 2008. It took years to bloom because I had to go through some things first, like the death of my mother, Sharon Rainey Johnson. Her death on February 1, 2009 was the birth of my spiritual journey. Spirit led me to Song of Solomon 2:1, “I am a Rose of Sharon, a Lily of the Valley,” which became the anchor for Valley Girl. My mother’s name is Sharon, she passed on 2/1, the lily of the valley flower is also known as “Our Lady’s Tears” (referring to Mary, the tears of the mother of Jesus Christ), and our home in the Valley of Southern Cali was surrounded by roses. Yep, I’m like totally a valley girl :o) It was meant to be.

However, I never imagined the valleys I’d have navigate without her. I survived a 12-year domestic violence relationship that shattered everything—my relationships, my finances, my faith, my mind, my body, and my soul. I was broken and confused. And no one knew.

I was left with the responsibility of piecing back together the shards of a life I did not break. I had to make a choice to heal, to live again, to rebuild a life, to open my heart again while suffocating from deep depression, paranoia, fear, anxiety, shame, guilt, embarrassment.

Then, I unexpectedly received a spiritual call to Christian ministry and earned a Masters degree in Theology (M.Div.). I discovered purpose in my pain. I prayed for it. I begged and lamented, believing God wouldn’t leave me in a perpetual state of confusion and suffering. And so it was.

With the help of my well ancestors and beloved support system, I let go of expectations of what my healing looked like and surrendered to God’s movement in my life. While years of prayer, scripture study, and cognitive behavioral therapy were vital to my healing, my physical body needed more. I discovered the complementary therapies of energetic and somatic work which helped me achieve true and sustainable healing.

This is why Valley Girl is not just a business, it’s an expression of my heart. It’s my medicine and offering to whoever is willing to receive it. Taste and see that God is truly good.

Education + Expertise

I believe authenticity is committing to honoring your true self while allowing others to do the same. It’s about making intentional choices that align with who we truly are, even when we risk rejection, being misunderstood or judged. It requires the courage to live with honesty and vulnerability, and requires deep self-awareness. Consistent authenticity is a pathway to genuine connections, emotional maturity, confidence, and freedom. Sharing our inner world allows us to be seen, can affirm our inherent worth, and free others to live into their own authenticity. Show up as your full self in all spaces, you never know who may need the ‘permission’ to do the same.

I believe multiple things can coexist without the need for definition, judgment, or binary opposition. Fluidity in existence allows us to embrace the ebb and flow of the human experience: dark and light, strength and softness, joy and pain, fear and courage, life and death, masculine and feminine, control and surrender, love and grief, faith and doubt, connection and solitude, Hope and despair, clarity and confusion, joy and pain. All can coexist, none is greater than the other nor more right than wrong. They just are.

I believe beauty is ever-present, waiting to be discovered even in the most unexpected places. Yes, it is in the details of a carefully curated home, it is in a perfectly arranged flower vase of seasonal flowers, it is the face you see when you look in the mirror wearing your flyest outfit. And, It is more than vanity, it is the ability to perceive and honor the beauty that surrounds us, to embrace it as a gift and remembrance that there is still goodness even in times where everything says otherwise. It is in the nutrient-rich ashes from desolation, the alchemy and magic that can happen when we are blessed with an opportunity to start again from scratch. It is opportunity. It is humility. It is honesty. It is the gentle whisper of the Divine, reminding us that every moment and every thing can be sacred and beautiful. It is viewing life through our hearts and recognizing the value in both the ordinary and the extraordinary. Beauty transcends circumstance, it is perception. We must open the eyes to our hearts to see it.

I believe curiosity is the child-like wonder that draws us deeper in the understanding of the world around us. It’s where the familiar becomes new and we perceive things through fresh eyes. Curiosity allows us to return to innocence, to explore the world with the heart of a child—open, unafraid, and eager to discover and explore. Curiosity asks questions and seeks answers. Curiosity gives us a new sense of admiration when life becomes jaded. We then can move through life not as judges, but as observers, embracing the mystery and marvel of all that is. Every question becomes an open doorway and every answer becomes a horizon of possibilities. We can frolic amongst the unknown, trusting that each step leads us deeper to truth.

I believe living from the heart is walking a path of Divine truth, where the voice of our hearts become a compass. It means living from a place of deep trust of self, knowing that the Divine dwells in our heart, guiding us with gentle whispers. We can find the courage to listen, to honor this wisdom and move through life with grace and tenderness. Living heart-led means embracing the softness of our being and allowing our actions to be wrapped with compassion. It also means surrendering to the heart’s knowing when the mind is sometimes uncertain, trusting that this inner guidance is leading us to our highest good. We become vessels of love, kindness, peace, and understanding.

I believe God is the Divine Creator of all that exists—the Heavens, the Earth, the multiverse, the past, the present, energy, entities seen and unseen, and every living thing. I believe all humans are made in the image of God, the imago dei, and therefore we possess Divine qualities. I believe God is love and unconditionally loves all people regardless of their race, sexual orientation/preference, geographic location, lifestyles, etc. I believe our spiritual journeys are deeply personal, we can choose our beliefs, and how we connect to the Divine. I believe Christ is the Son of God and the Bible is the inspired word of God, written by men from various social contexts, for specific groups of people, at different points in history. I believe the interpretation and semantics of Holy Scripture has evolved over time. I value the study of various theologies and the understanding of how fundamentalism and colonization have influenced modern Christianity. My ethos embraces the exploration and expansiveness of God that is rooted in traditional and ancestral practices that invite us to a deeper connection to God.
